Kedibone.
The post-production record.
A feature film cut for Shack Pictures and Smatsatsa Communications, directed by Thomas Gumede, released in September 2020 and distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution.
The production.
My role.
Kedibone was the first feature I cut. It was also the first project I cut in DaVinci Resolve.
Two firsts on one job.
The project ran at 4096×1716, 24 frames a second. The cut went to a fifth draft at a running time of 01:36:31:09 — six video tracks, thirteen audio tracks, and a project library that had reached 59 timelines by the time the film was finished. The trailer was cut in the same project.
Learning a new platform on a real film is testing. There is no practice footage, no sandbox, no second schedule to fall back on. After five months I had pulled through, and I still had a lot to learn.
What changed.
By the end of it I was convinced Resolve would be my platform.
I never looked back. Everything since has been cut in it.
The five months were the price of that decision, paid once, on a film that had a release date.
The evidence.
The project library and the cut, as they still sit on the machine they were made on.
